The annual Chamber of Commerce Business and Technology Expo takes place this weekend at the Family Life Centre.
The invitation-only grand opening kicks off at 5.30pm tonight and the event will be open to the general public tomorrow and Saturday.
This year’s Expo features 40 exhibitors from the local and multinational business community. It is the first time the event has been held at the Family Life Centre, having been housed at the Lion’s Centre since the early ’90s.
Chamber CEO Wil Pineau said: ‘It will be completely different from what people have come to expect at the show. There will be many more interactive displays and some great lighting. It’s going to be a true consumer showcase.’
He added: ‘We want people to engage with the exhibitors and understand the products and services on offer, and save some money before the Christmas holidays.’
Visitors to the Expo can browse an array of business tools, wireless and mobile solutions, computers, financial services products, healthcare items, security systems, as well as a variety of the latest laptops, scanners, cameras and other gadgets.
Mr. Pineau said the in light of the difficult economic environment worldwide, the work of the Chamber in promoting local businesses was more important than ever, and the expo was an opportunity for the public to become more acquainted with those businesses.
‘The Chamber is doing everything in our power to remain optimistic and show the community that there are a lot of local businesses that have products and services that will appeal to everyone,’ he said.
With the theme ‘Get Connected’, this year’s expo leans heavily towards technology and innovation.
There will also be an emphasis on medical care this year. Cayman’s Health Services Authority will have its own booth and two Miami medical facilities – Jackson Memorial Hospital and Baptist Health International – will be there to give information about some of their specialised medical procedures.
The Expo opens its doors to the public from 12pm to 8pm tomorrow and from 10am to 4pm Saturday.
