Spearheaded by dms Broadcasting Senior Programme Director, Ben Maxwell, the six-week programme will be offered to 15 students and run during the months of November and December.
dms Broadcasting staff will be sharing their expertise in three sessions, each comprising of a two-hour, bi-weekly class. Five students will attend each session and the groups will be rotated every two weeks.
Students will experience a general overview of broadcasting, and gain insight into commercial and public service announcement production by writing and producing a spot of their own.
In addition to this, students will also have the opportunity to perform a live broadcast with X107.1’s Nasby and HOT 104.1’s D Docta.
John Gray High School’s new exam syllabus requires that students gain direct experience in the field of broadcasting.
Upon completion of each session, an evaluation sheet will be completed by dms addressing the attitudes displayed and skills learned by the students. This sheet will be included in each student’s portfolio which will be sent to the United Kingdom to receive a grade.
In addition, each student will also receive a participatory certificate acknowledging their completion.
Don Seymour, president of dms Organization, said: ‘dms has an ongoing commitment to investing in the youth of Cayman, and we are delighted to do our part to develop a generation of young broadcasters as they gain invaluable insight into the business.’
