CTA makes good ‘Water Sense’

The Gallery at the Ritz-Carlton’s latest exhibition explores the stunning Caribbean Sea with a selection of colourful, diverse and provoking artwork by some of Cayman’s leading artists.

The exhibition, called Water Sense, includes such talent as Al Ebanks, Gordon Solomon, Avril Ward, Sue Widmer, Nasaria Suckoo-Cholette, Chris Christian, Renate Seffer, Patrick Broderick, Charles Long, Dora Williams, Jenny Palmer and Nancy Davies.

The exhibition’s opening night was held last Wednesday and was attended by a large number of local art lovers as well as guests of the Ritz-Carlton. Many of the exhibiting artists were also there to promote their work and spent time answering questions about their own styles and inspirations.

The exhibition, sponsored by BIGFIN Marketing Communications, is curated by Cayman Traditional Arts as part of the organisation’s ongoing efforts to promote local artists’ work to both overseas and local buyers.

Chris Christian, CTA managing director and an artist himself, said art exhibitions such as these are an important forum for local artists to promote their work.

‘CTA is all about promoting local art, not only to our own community – but to the rest of the world. This is an ideal forum. We are a small team at the CTA but we are passionate and very active.

‘We also take great joy in training young Caymanians in the work that we do, like our Junior Art Coordinator, Gabrielle Watler, who played a big part in putting this exhibition together.’

Trina Christian, CTA spokesperson, added: ‘We have so many talented and prolific local artists, we are lucky to always have enough quality work to hold our exhibitions on a regular basis. The Ritz-Carlton, has been a tremendous support in allowing us the use of their Gallery space, and of course they are able to benefit too from the incredible displays of colourful works.’

Water Sense will be on show through February 2009. All exhibition pieces are for sale and may be purchased through the retail department of the Ritz-Carlton.
