Pirate’s Week Costume Competition

A large crowd turned out for the Pirates Week Costume Competition recently.

Kavata Hanson took first place in the Adult category and ‘Bloody Mary’ took second place.

In the Junior category, Daniel Nightingale won first place, while Kalie Broderick won second place.

The Tiny Tots winner was Herman Moraes, with Reyah Stewart in second place.

Katie O’Neill, who organized the event, said: ‘The crowd was enthusiastic, and the costumes looked great. It was so much fun to watch the faces of the spectators; pure delight.’

Festival Director, Dave Martins, said: ‘Any time you shift an event in a festival, no matter how much you advertise, the attendance falls off. That didn’t happen in this case, and it shows the interest in it.’

The crowd response was particularly strong in the Tiny Tots category, which made up more than half of the competitors.

Home Gas has sponsored the competition since its inception in 2006 and Operations Manager, Derrell Ragsdale, said: ‘The Pirate Costume Competition is such good clean fun, and Home Gas is proud to be involved as the sole sponsor. The interaction between the contestants and the crowd was pure entertainment!’
