The A-League softball championship was held at the Field of Dreams last Monday, which saw the reigning champions, Home Gas, square off against KM Limited.
Home Gas took an early 5-1 lead at the end of the second inning. KM Limited fought back scoring four runs in the top of the third to even the game at 5-5.
Home Gas were unable to score in the bottom of the same inning and it looked as if it was going to be a tight game to the finish.
In the top of the fourth, KM Limited’s Brent McComb led off with a spectacular inside the park homerun to put them ahead 6-5.
Seeing that KM Limited had come to play ball, Home Gas knew they had their work cut out for them.
In the bottom of the fourth, Home Gas staged a rally with leadoff batter, Chrystal Bush, singling to get things started.
Ann-Marie Douglas followed with a single of her own and Home Gas quickly had runners in scoring position.
The hit parade continued around the line up before 8 runs were scored, including a monster homerun over the left-field fence and trees by Johnny Johnson to cap off the inning with Home Gas out to a 13-6 lead.
KM Limited showed true team spirit by never giving up. They mustered two more runs in the game hoping to keep it close, but the stellar defense of Home Gas would not allow them to get any closer.
Home Gas added two more runs of their own scoring one each in the sixth and seventh inning to take their fourth A-League Championship in a row by a final score of 15-8.
Home Gas sponsor and General Manager, Dayne Brady, called to congratulate his team and express how proud he was.
‘It has been a pleasure to be part of this team and I look forward to many more seasons with everyone and Home Gas as a sponsor to a team with such talent and passion for the game,’ he said.
‘I’m already looking forward to next season.’
Home Gas will try to make it five championships in a row when the next season starts in the beginning of 2009.
