Aces will serve us well

The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman Legends Championships Pro-Am Tournament is almost here.

It starts on Friday, April 24 and Mike Ryan, owner and developer of The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman Resort, the DeckHouses and Secret Harbour, will host the fundraising event with four-time Grand Slam champion Jim Courier.

They will raise money for the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre. Joining Courier in the line up of professional tennis players will be Mark Philippoussis, Goran Ivanisevic, Mats Wilander, Wayne Ferreira, Mikael Pernfors, Jimmy Arias and Karel Novacek.

Each lucky amateur is given the opportunity to partake in match play with the participating champions. This once-in-a-lifetime experience to rally with the pros includes the added bonus of benefiting a great cause.

Only eight amateur spots are available at US$2,500 apiece, and in addition to playing against the Legends Championships tennis professionals, each participant will receive a special photograph of themselves with the Pro-Am players.

The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman Resort Legends Championships is one of eight events on the 2009 Outback Champions Series, a collection of tennis events around the world featuring the greatest names in tennis over the age of 30.

Courier won it last year and is leading in the standings so far.

The event features $150,000 in prize money with an undefeated winner taking home $60,000. Players also compete for Champions Series points that will determine the Champions Rankings year-end No. 1.

Sponsors of this year’s Legends Championships include: Outback Steakhouse, Coca-Cola, Diamonds International, Jacques Scott, DMS Broadcasting Ltd., Cayman Financial Review, GT Automotive/BMW, Queensgate and Tattersall.
