Residents looking for affordable vacation ideas this summer needn’t look too far from home.
The Ministry of Tourism and private sector organisation the Cayman Islands Tourism Association are partnering to promote the growing worldwide trend of ‘Staycations’.
Minister for Tourism, Charles Clifford said, ‘The ministry is pleased to support this national campaign. We know of many families that are looking for economical ways to vacation and we want to suggest a hot, new, affordable vacation experience located right here at home in the Cayman Islands.’
Mr. Clifford said staycations were growing in popularity for a myriad of reasons. ‘A programme like this is instrumental in spreading the direct benefits of our tourism promotions beyond the accommodations sector to the many other businesses which comprise our tourism industry.
‘It also helps to facilitate special rates for Caymanians and other residents which can better allow them to explore Cayman’s amazing tourism product above and below the seas.’
CITA Executive Director Trina Christian says their member businesses were quick to jump on board for this promotion. “We recognise that this Staycations promotion will act as a stimulus for local businesses while things are slow.
‘Local residents will also be presented with a solution to still be able to enjoy a summer holiday without the travel expenses.”
Staycations allows local businesses to promote their diverse offerings to residents while encouraging them to vacation in their own country.
CITA has coordinated offers of stays at condos, villas and hotels along with restaurant specials and watersports activities. Visit www.cita.ky for more Staycation details.
