Camana Bay and The Bead Shop have come together to create a new workshop which is a fast-track to a new hobby – beaded jewellery.
The Bead Shop’s Sue Rutty will be at Camana Bay’s Gardenia Court on Monday, 1 June from 5.30pm to 7.30pm to guide participants in learning a new craft. By the end of the workshop, each participant should walk away with a completed, unique, three-strand bracelet.
Ms Rutty will teach participants about the world of beads and the materials, tools and basic techniques that are used in making necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings.
During the workshop, participants will design their own three-strand bracelet and will learn creative ways to incorporate different materials, beads and colours. Materials used will include glass beads, silver-plated accent pieces and combinations of colourful beads.
Ms Rutty began beading a few years ago and has since then created hundreds of bracelets, necklaces and earrings. What started as a hobby turned into cottage industry, allowing her to sell her handmade jewellery at local arts and crafts stores, and soon the need for a constant supply of new beads led her to open The Bead Shop.
Refreshments and light snacks will be served. Space is limited so sign up by emailing [email protected] to register for the workshop. Due to the intricate beadwork involved, the workshop is not suitable for children.
