Jet Around Cayman to make waves again

Organisers are getting set for the 13th annual Jet Around Cayman jet ski race this Queen’s Birthday weekend, from 11 June through 15 June.

With a large number of racers participating in this year’s event and the return of the Friday night fete, Fantasy Friday, on 12 June, this year is set to be one of the biggest Jet Around Cayman weekends yet.

With preparations underway for race day on 15 June at Public Beach, organisers are anticipating anywhere up to 30 riders hitting the water, ranging from experienced riders and returning veterans who have taken part in the event since its inception to rookies and international riders.

‘It is encouraging each year to see the number of participants rise and to see returning riders who support the event year after year,’ said Kenny Rankin, manager of Monster Media.

‘All of the riders train hard for the race and are very determined, always making it an exciting race for everyone involved.’

Mr. Rankin made particular mention of last year’s Open Class winner Jordan McLean of the ‘Tryin a Ting’ team, saying that he will be determined to hold his title as there are many other young racers keen to take the prize.

Mr. McLean took top prize in 2008 and was very close to record time, which he will be looking to beat this year. Returning riders that Mr. McLean will have to look out for will include Jeremy Thompson of Tony’s Toys Racing team and Corey Miller of Team Naut Wukin.

Race Day kicks off at 12pm and the race starts at 1pm sharp with riders leaving the Public Beach coast and setting off on the intense course around the island.

On land, an array of activities, including an appearance from the Jet Around Cayman calendar girls and entertainment from Vibe 98.9FM DJs. Food and drink will be available all day on the beach and families are welcome.

There will be a Kids’ Zone in place and a range of games for children to participate in while the race takes place as well.
