Tennis youngsters are little diamonds

The third round of the Diamonds International Junior Tennis Circuit took place at Camana Bay last week.

Organised by Warren Urquhart of Cayman Sports Ltd and Eduardo Torres of Torres Top Tennis in conjunction with the Tennis Federation of the Cayman Islands, 26 players took part.

In the boys 10 and under, Josh Boland beat Daniel Reid. James Feitelberg beat William Hayward in a very close match in the boys 13 and under. The boys 16 and under was also closely fought, won by Tristan van Kirchenheim who beat Alex Leonard in a tiebreaker.

Prizes for players with the best attitude went to Manuel Gonzalez and William Hayward.

Coach Warren said: ‘Congratulations to all three winners and all the finalists. Credit must also go to all the players who make this a fun tournament for us to manage. I have never run a tournament where the children have been so polite and so easy to deal with. The level of play continues to improve and the quality and intensity of the final matches was very encouraging.’

President of the Tennis Federation of the Cayman Islands, Jeremy Superfine, said: ‘Thank you to Camana Bay, Diamonds International, Warren and Eduardo for making this third grand prix event so successful.

‘The masters final event will be held June 28-29. This Diamonds International Junior Circuit really is bringing excitement back to junior tennis. We have 35 participants on the circuit, half of which are under 10.

‘The level of tennis has dramatically improved from the first event held last year.’

The final Masters round of the circuit is at The Courts at the Ritz Carlton and promises to show more great tennis from our juniors. All are encouraged to support.
