When the IFPA/NANBF Universe Muscle Classic takes place at the Lions Centre next week, one of the popular competitors who will be travelling to Cayman for the event will be Kurt Dunn of Jamaica.
Dunn, 30 is a certified group fitness, personal trainer and model. He was born in St. Mary Jamaica and grew up in the capital, Kingston.
Nicknamed ‘Mr. Fitness’ due to his four times National Fitness Championship reign, Kurt first started competing professionally in fitness in 2002 and internationally in the 2007 Natural Caribbean Fitness International Championship, where he placed first.
After attaining his fitness title Kurt was motivated to compete for the first time in the Natural Caribbean Grand Prix Bodybuilding Championship, held in Grand Cayman, where he placed third.
In 2008 he again competed in the Caribbean Grand Prix and earned himself a second place finish.
The phoenix will rise again on Saturday, June 20 when he represents Jamaica at the IFPA/ NANBF Universe Muscle Classic, vying for the title.
Dunn’s chance at winning this title is due to the support of corporate Jamaica, such as Sunshine Cereals, Grace Kennedy Remittance, Locker Rooms Sports and North American Holdings, all promoting the wellness and development of Jamaica’s sportsmen and women.
He has been featured in many fitness and bodybuilding articles, promoting a healthy lifestyle through proper eating habits, exercise and rest, and believes that true wealth is a healthy mind, body and soul.
His message to the youths comes from a Lloyd Dobens quote that he loves:
‘The only lifelong, reliable motivations are those that come from within, and one of the strongest of those is the joy and pride that comes from knowing that you’ve just done something as well as you can do it.’
Tickets for the event cost $15 for prejudging and $25 for the finals. More information on the event can be obtained by calling 916-5662, 916-5191 or by e-mail at [email protected]
