Cayman’s women’s rugby team got off to a flier at the Caribbean Championships in Barbados by thrashing the hosts 54-3 on Sunday.
It was a great team effort and tries were spread across the board. Tries came from Olive MacDonald (3), Jess Lane (2), Loletta Hanna, Karen Hart, Lisa Bird, Lisa Kehoe and captain Rowena Lawrence. MacDonald converted two tries.
Cayman are supposed to play St Vincent today but they picked up so many injuries in losing to tournament favourites Trinidad and Tobago that they may not be able to field a team.
Hanna led the group in prayer before the warm up began and the team all wore black armbands in support of Bernadette Beckles (outside centre) whose mother sadly passed away last week which meant that Bernie pulled out of the competition.
