Ashleigh Nalty and Wallace Lyttle are the latest Cayman athletes to grab gold at the NatWest Island Games in Aland, near Finland.
Nalty did it with a magnificent leap of 1.72 metres on Wednesday. Wallace won the 100 metres in the men’s athletics on Thursday as we went to press.
Although only 15, Nalty has won many medals already and her jump at the Island Games was a personal best.
The Triple C pupil was last year’s Female Youth Athlete of the Year and is one of the brightest athletes in a talented pool that is impressing at international meets every year.
Their golds bring to five Cayman’s haul so far.
Alexander ‘Nemo’ Terry got a silver medal in the women’s discus yesterday to bring Cayman’s haul to four. They also have two bronzes, in shooting and through Steven Reid in the 100m athletics yesterday.
The golds have all come in athletics. The others are in 200 metres through Robert Ibeh, Junior Hines in the 400m hurdles and Perry Anglin in the high jump. Hammer thrower Michael Letterlough and high jumper Omar Wright both got silver.
The men’s tennis team got silver too.
