Congratulations Eduardo Torres who successfully defended his tennis title at the Aland Games.
Torres took the gold medal by beating local hero Peter Forsstrom of Aland in the final. Torres took the same title two years ago in Rhodes.
He runs his own coaching school here, Torres Top Tennis and all the hard work in preparing paid off.
‘I’m off on holiday in Europe now for a break,’ an exhausted Torres said.
The Cayman Islands had a successful tournament at the NatWest Island Games winning seven golds, four silvers and three bronzes.
All the other golds came in athletics; Wallace Lyttle (100 metres), Robert Ibeh (200m), men’s 4x100m relay, Junior Hines (400m hurdles), Perry Anglin (high jump) and Ashleigh Nalty (women’s high jump).
The silvers came from Michael Letterlough (hammer), Alexander Terry (women’s discus), Omar Wright (high jump) and men’s team tennis.
The three bronzes were came from Steven Reid (100m), Samantha Widmer (women’s golf) and sporting team shooting.
The team came back from Aland, near Finland yesterday.
