Teed up in Ogier gear

The Cayman Islands national golf team leaves for the Bordier Bank 53rd Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships in Turks & Caicos on Sunday.

The competition will be held at the Provo Golf Club until 10 August.

The Cayman Islands Golf Association held qualifiers earlier this year and the team has been practicing and working on their games with coach Kevin Mumford, the director of golf at The North Sound Club.

The team met on Monday evening to receive their uniforms, which are sponsored again this year by Ogier. There was one last team practice last night and a round of golf tomorrow and then off to Provo the following day.

This year’s women’s team is Nitti Howe, Samantha Widmer and Josie Yeend. The Super Senior team is Tom Crawford and Bob Slatter. The Senior team is George Christie and Tracy Moore, with Colin MacKay and Trent Riggins competing in the Mid-Amateur division.

The Hoerman Cup team is Joel Dodson, Sean McEachern, Johnny Widmer, Michael Wight and Robert Woods.

Robert Chilman was slated to be on the senior team, but because of a shoulder injury he is unable to play and now takes over as the team manager from George Christie, who plays in the seniors with Moore.

The Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships were held in the Cayman Islands last year and are scheduled to be held here again in 2017.
