The La Ceiba bound Cayman Airways flight due to depart Grand Cayman Saturday morning was cancelled.
Flight 824, scheduled to depart Grand Cayman at 9am for Honduras, was cancelled when the Meteorological Office in La Ceiba failed to produce a weather reading for the destination.
According to unofficial reports, said Cayman Airways, the La Ceiba Met Office staff was on strike. Without a weather reading, Cayman Airways is unable to dispatch flights to any destination, as required by law.
Related authorities in La Ceiba have confirmed that all dispatch requirements were to be met in order for Cayman Airways to conduct an extra section flight on Monday, 10 August departing Grand Cayman at 9am. All affected passengers from Saturday’s cancelled flight were to be re-protected with that service.
The regular weekly flights to La Ceiba will be operated as scheduled thereafter, said Cayman Airways.
