Eric Ripert receives Best of Award of Excellence

Blue becomes Cayman’s only restaurant to earn the coveted two glass rating

Grand Cayman is renowned as a culinary destination and now boasts another draw for people passionate about food and wine: its first restaurant to earn the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence, Blue by Eric Ripert at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.

Blue was recognised for its list with more than 500 positions that, according to criteria published by Wine Spectator, ‘clearly exceed the requirements of the Award of Excellence; these lists display vintage depth or excellent breadth across several wine regions.’

Only 816 restaurants in the world have received the Best of Award of Excellence with less than five in the Caribbean region.

‘We are especially proud of the diversity in our wine list,’ said Sommelier Kristian Netis. ‘Our ladies and gentlemen in Blue come from 13 different countries and are well travelled. We share our passion for wines from all regions by presenting guests with more than 650 wines and associating them with tastes and memories they may have experienced in their own travels.’

7 Prime Cuts & Sunsets at The Ritz-Carlton also received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 295 positions. This new award brings Cayman’s total restaurants to have received this honour to 10.

‘Cayman has a disproportionate share of restaurants with extraordinary wine lists,’ said Director of Food & Beverage at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman Guntram Merl. ‘Considering that Cayman has a population of around 55,000 and 11 Wine Spectator Awards while all other countries in the Caribbean have only 29 combined, Cayman is without question the premier destination for travellers who appreciate great food and wine.’
