The Lions Club of the Year has named Belinda Blessitt Vincent as the Lion of Year.
Covering the time period from 2008 to 2009, Ms Vincent was given the award earlier this month.
Former Lions president and Melvin Jones Fellow, Lion Ann Hunte, commended Ms Vincent for her commitment to the organisation through her selfless service to the community and regular attendance at meetings.
Ms Hunte also stated that Ms Vincent’s performance as the public relations chairperson in keeping the club visible in the community and members up to date with the publication of the club’s monthly newsletter was second to none.
Ms Vincent said was very honoured and humbled to have been recognised for this prestigious award. She especially wanted to thank Lion Ann and the club for considering her for the award and she promised to continue to serve in Lionism.
When asked what advice she would give to fellow Lions, Ms Vincent referred to Lions International.
‘Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller and communities get better,’ said Ms Vincent. ‘That is because we help where help is needed, in our own communities and around the world, with unmatched integrity and energy.’
Ms Vincent has been a member of Lions Club of Tropical Gardens for three years. Prior to that, she was also a Lion in St. Mary Lions Club in Jamaica for many years.
During that time she has taken on various positions, and is currently the second vice president of the club and responsible for fundraising and public relations.
