Three men charged with the 5 July murder of Omar Barton Samuels will return to Summary Court on 15 September for a bail application.
Osbourne Wilfred Douglas, 22, Patrick Elbert McField, 22, and Brandon Mikkyle Leslie, 23, made their first appearance on Monday before Magistrate Nova Hall, who remanded them in custody to Northward Prison.
Defence Attorney Lloyd Samson advised the court that an application for bail would be made in a week’s time. He represents Douglas and McField, both of whom have George Town addresses.
Attorney Nicholas Dixey represented Leslie, whose address on the charge sheet was in the Spotts/Newlands area.
Mr. Dixey asked the magistrate to witness signatures on legal aid application forms, which she did.
Crown Counsel Nicola Moore initially advised that she would apply to have the hearing with the courtroom cleared, but later said it would not be necessary in view of her discussion with counsel.
Ms Moore suggested a preliminary inquiry into the charge be held on 1 October so that the matter could be sent to the Grand Court in time for its next session, which starts 7 October.
A police press release issued over the weekend said Mr. Samuels, 28, was found with a gunshot wound to his leg in the McField Lane area of George Town in the early hours of 5 July. A post mortem carried out a week later showed he had a single gun shot wound to his leg that penetrated the femoral artery.
