Floyd’s better than Pac

The horse trading has started already. Freddie Roach fired the first shots in the negotiations between his man Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jnr.

Roach was not impressed with Mayweather’s victory over Juan Manuel Marquez. The fight was there for the taking, he said, Mayweather just did not have the balls to finish him off.

I like and respect Roach but I think he is whistling in the dark here. Yes, Mayweather could take more risks and could be more exciting.

He is still an awesome fighter. At welterweight there is not a boxer alive who can take him in my view.

There is a danger in Roach and Pacquiao looking too far over the fence into the future. They have enough on their plate in November with Miguel Cotto.

Mayweather was exceptional after 21 months out of the ring. He completely outclassed a first-rate Mexican in Marquez. He did everything bar knock him out.

He has not got a mark on him and has millions in the bank. Who is the genius?

Yes, there is a safety-first element, but that makes him the fighter he is. We have to accept that.

He did to Marquez what Pacquiao could not do in two fights; completely dominated him.

Boxing has missed Mayweather and needs him. You only have to look at the queue forming to fight him to see that.
