GT can’t tame fierce Tigers

George Town 2

Tigers 2

George Town will rue wasting their chances in the first half and allowing the battling Tigers to earn a point from this entertaining encounter.

George Town started their season well by defeating newly-promoted Bodden Town the previous week, but at the Ed Bush Stadium on Sunday it was as if they were resting on their laurels.

David Harding’s early goal settled George Town into a rhythm and they had most of the possession before the break.

But Tigers came out fiercely in the second half and equalised through a controversial penalty, taken efficiently by Carlos Powery.

When Charles Rowe got a second for George Town near the end, it looked like the winner. But Keigel Atkinson popped up to snatch an equaliser late on. Atkinson hit a hat-trick against Roma last week so is the deadliest marksman so far this term.

A fuming Lee Ramoon, George Town’s player-coach, said: ‘That penalty should never have been given. It seems as if the Cayman Islands Referee’s Association has got something against George Town. There were other decisions that definitely went against us.’

Ramoon may be 45 but he intends to return soon when fit enough. He also looks forward to the return of Garth Anderson, the creative midfielder.
