Spurs eye James

Harry Redknapp expects to sign David James for $1.5 million in January.

The Spurs boss wants a new keeper to boost his team’s hopes of breaking into the top four.

And he will move for his old Portsmouth keeper James after being told he has no chance of luring Blackburn’s Paul Robinson back to White Hart Lane.

The fee could drop if Spurs’ Italian stopper Carlo Cudicini agrees to move the other way.

Pompey are rock bottom of the Premier League with just three points.

James, 39, fears their position could affect his chances of being England’s No 1 keeper at the World Cup. England play Belarus in their final World Cup qualifier tonight at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Manchester City manager Mark Hughes believes Robinho is on the verge of returning to first-team action following his ankle injury.

The Brazil star has been unavailable since the end of August due to a stress fracture and there has been speculation that he could struggle to regain a place in Hughes’ plans.
