Chelsea set the pace

A few weeks ago East End saw the launch of a huge sports initiative.

The East End Community five-a-side football league got under way with much fanfare and hoopla.

Now the league is pressing onwards with its first batch of games.

Over the weekend the league saw its second round of matches at the Donovan Rankine play field in East End.

In the U13 division the Gators beat team Flamingos 5-2. Leading the way for the winning squad were youngsters Brandon Browning (three goals) and Kevin Watler (two goals).

Teriq Forbes and Kelvin Watler scored for team Flamingos.

The other game in the U13 division saw the Sharks win 2-0 over the Iguanas. Rushawn Williams and Ian Smith were the goal scorers.

The hotly contested U18 division also saw a pair of games. Team Barcelona gave a 6-1 beat down to team Real Madrid.

Rodrick Pearson had a phenomenal game with four goals while team-mate Jordan Kirchman added another.

Keron Watler had the only goal for the losing side, which also gave up an own goal to add insult to injury.

With the way the real Spanish giants have been playing of late this result could well replicate itself in La Liga some day.

The other U18 game had a more English flair as team Chelsea beat team Manchester 2-0.

Cody McLaughlin and Adam Rankine were the goal scorers.

These days the real Chelsea look like the team to beat as they are looking good atop of the English Premier League, ahead of both Manchester United and Manchester City.

Based on the history of the Stamford Bridge natives it seems fall is always a good time for fans all over to side with the Blues.

Games for the East End league are played every Saturday evening.
