Without a doubt two of the most dominant players in the 2009 Appleby U19 basketball league are Brandon Glasgow and Latorae Nixon.
Both have the height, footwork and shooting range to be a handful on the court. So far both have been a terror and it’s no surprise they get player of the week honours.
Glasgow is the league’s leading scorer, averaging more than 30 points, 6 steals, 4 assists and 11 rebounds per game.
He has also slotted home the most points (154) and had the highest scoring game of any player (43 points against a decent John Gray Panthers team a month ago).
Not to mention Glasgow is seventh in three point shooting and has the fifth best free-throw shooting percentage.
In a recent game against the Playmakers Glasgow once again had a starring role pouring in 22 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and five assists.
Glasgow’s team, Shockwaves of Beach Suites, are on top of the Boys league and with his hustle the side are an early favourite for this year’s title.
Nixon meanwhile leads the Girls league in scoring this season averaging more than 17 points and eight rebounds per game.
She has scored the most points (88) and had the highest scoring game of the season for the Sparks.
Recently she led her team to a narrow two point victory over the Monarchs after being down by 12 points with less than five minutes in the second half.
Nixon finished with a season-high 31 points to go with 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocks.
Thanks to her efforts the Sparks are firmly in second place in the Girls league and have the potential to steal this year’s title.
What is most amazing about Nixon is that she is technically a baby amongst the teenagers at just 12 years-old.
