Kiwanis tees up Special event

The Special Olympics Best Ball Fundraiser Golf Tournament is on tomorrow at North Sound Club with a 1pm tee off time.

The event is being organised by the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman.

Best ball is a way to play in a team that all levels of golfers can enjoy and win.

Competitors choose the best ball out to the four shots and move their ball to that position and shoot again and so on.

This year the Special Olympics Cayman Islands is in desperate need for a new bus as the existing one is on its last legs.

The bus is used to transport the athletes from various districts to sports training several times a week as well as to events and other related activities. Funds raised for SOCI would go to help purchase a bus.

The SOCI is a 21-year-old licensed and accredited organisation by Special Olympics International. SOCI provides sports training year round, local annual competitions, overseas regional and world games competitions to persons with intellectual disabilities.

Since 1995 Kiwanis has been organizing golf tournaments to raise funds for various charities and community services for the children.

A Memorial Golf Trophy was donated for the event in memory of Joe Patterson who was a keen golfer and long standing Kiwanian which is presented to the winning team.

This year the club gives great thanks for the support from the Insurance Company of the West Indies, First Caribbean Bank, Cayman National Bank, The Mansion, Butterfield Bank, Creative Tech & Nautilus Cayman Ltd who without their contributions could not make this happen.

Many prizes have also been donated so all the players, no matter what level, have an opportunity to win something.

All participating golfers also have a chance to achieve a hole-in-one and win $100,000 cash or another bonus hole-in-one prize as well as prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive, highest score, lowest score plus the putting playoffs for a private three-hour charter on the Allura Catamaran and much more.

Space is still available to anyone wishing to submit a team or sponsor a hole.
