Motions hosts Holiday showcase

Next Friday sees the next big event on the local gymnastics scene.

The 2009 Holiday Showcase takes place at Motions Unlimited gymnastics studio on Sparky Drive off North Sound Road.

All of the action gets under way 6-9pm with a CI$10 admission fee in effect.

A door prize is slated to be on offer for all attendees. A $5 raffle ticket will also be on sale on the night.

That raffle ticket offers a chance to win prizes such as Dolphin Cove excursions, Balaclava jewellery, Kirk Freeport gift certificates, restaurant giveaways and roundtrip airline tickets to Miami.

Some 20 youngsters are expected to compete with most of them being young girls under 18 years-old.

Among the various disciplines the youngsters are set to showcase are the bars, beam, floor and vault routines.

The event marks the first time a team of young male gymnasts will be competing.

In particular they will be showing their skills in additional disciplines including the parallel bars, rings, high bar and pommel horse events.

After the various exercises in the competition the gym is slated to be open for use by the public to complete the ‘family fun night.’

News of the impending local meet comes after a team of local girls took part in the Fright Invite gymnastics competition in Coral Springs, Florida.

In that event the 13 member team came in second overall in two out of three age-based levels.

Next Friday’s meet marks the last time local youngsters will compete before going to their next international competition.

At this point that is slated to be the Gasparilla Classic at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida in late February.

Proceeds from the event are slated to go towards coaching fees and the team’s travel expenses.
