It looked like
it was going to be one way traffic at the Smith Road Oval last weekend as
Greenies took on By Rite in Division 1. Michael Wight produced his best
bowling, claiming six wickets in eight overs while only conceding 15 runs.
Coming on from the Smith Road End and bowling unchanged, Wight’s spell seemed
set to spin Crighton Properties Ltd By Rite to a Valentine Day victory against
Greenies 1.
Greenies 1 got
off to a productive start of 59 runs with new opener Andrew Ledger and Ian
Rotsey combining well and seeing off the By Rite pace attack of Kenute Tulloch
and Conroy Wright. Both opening batsmen, as well as Michael Reid, made it to
their thirties and Greenies 1 seemed set for a very solid total before Wight started
dismantling them. However, in spite of Wight’s imperious performance with the
ball, Greenies still managed to put up a competitive total of 159 runs.
Unlike their
opponents, By Rite had a terrible start at bat, as they slumped to a woeful 67
for 6. However, solid contributions from Zitroy Robertson with 22, Conroy
Wright with 25 and George Hudson with 25, By Rite clawed its way back to 134
runs. It was now up to By Rite’s final two at bat, Kenute Tulloch and Stedman
Gray to score the required runs to salvage victory for the team. Scoring 12
runs each, the last pair made it two weeks in a row for a By Rite last pair victory.
In Division 2
ESSO Cubs defeated Wellys/Cayman Doors by 8 wickets. Outstanding at bat for
ESSO Cubs were Sacha De Alvis with 34 not out, Tony Higgins with 23 and Paul
Chin with 19 not out. Higgins shone with the ball as well, taking 4 for 33,
while Kervin Ebanks claimed 3 for 31.
At the Smith
Road Oval it was all about Franklin Hinds as he claimed 4 for 34 and added 58
not out with the bat to take JJ’s to victory over Greenies TOO. Kerniel Coley
also performed well at bat with 53 not out.
