HR scholarship recipients announced

Philip (Dave) Soriano and Dahalia
Powell are the 2010 scholarship recipients for the Society of Human Resource
Management’s Senior Professional of Human Resources certificate.

“The Cayman Islands Society of Human
Resources Professionals is thrilled to be in a position to offer these
scholarships again as we have seen a trend for many companies and institutions
on the Island to cut back on educational development opportunities for their
staff due to the economic climate” said Society President Phil Jackson.

 “Professional accreditation is an important
step in an HR career and the Society of Human Resource Management offers a globally
recognized qualification,” said Society Vice President Samantha Nehra.

“By offering these scholarships, we
are improving our Cayman based talent in the field of HR and in turn make a
positive impact in the businesses where the scholarship recipients work and
contribute daily.”

Mr. Soriano, who is a student
member of the Society, applied for the scholarship due to his interest in becoming
a more well-rounded finance and administrative officer. Having attended two of
the classroom sessions, he found that much of the theory directly applies to
his practical experiences.

Ms Powell, who is an HR Associate
at CIBC, has also started the course. She said attaining the certification will
enhance her level of professionalism equip her with new expertise enabling her
to better appreciate the complexity of this essential industry.
