number-one golfer Tiger Woods has announced he will return to the sport next
month at the Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia.
In a statement released on his website, Woods announced his return after a four-month
hiatus from the sport, following revelations that he had cheated on his wife
with numerous women.
Woods is a four-time champion at the Masters, the first major tournament of the
year, with his last victory there coming in 2005.
The scandal-plagued golfer has not played competitive golf since 15 November,
when he won the Australian Masters. Less than two weeks later, he crashed
his car into a tree outside his Florida home, setting off a flurry of negative
publicity that resulted in the loss of millions of dollars for product endorsements.
Woods says that while he is returning to competition, he still has a lot of
work to do in his personal life. The Masters begins at Augusta National
on 8 April.
