Speedy Tibbetts eyes more fast runs

March is almost over and
Motorsports has another event on tap.

Sunday sees the monthly Time Attack
dexterity race event at the Progressive loop. Lighting will not be a problem
for racers as action sees a 9am start.

The new format this year sees
drivers split up into three categories. Racers compete in the Two Wheel Drive
segment (a combination of Front
Wheel Drive and Rear Wheel Drive vehicles), All Wheel
Drive and the Unlimited classes.

Sunday’s meet comes after 16 drivers
took part in last month’s event. Three drivers would grab the most props in
Ajoni Ambersley, Richard Crawshaw and Keith P. Tibbetts III.

Ambersley rode his Nissan Primera
to victory in the 2WD category. He beat out Jerad Ebanks (brother of racer
Josen Ebanks) in his turbo Toyota Starlet and Gary Bromfield in his new Honda
Civic Type-R.

Bromfield was a major contender the
last two years in his red Acura Integra GSR. He even raced a Mercedes Benz A200
and the Automotive Art Volvo S40 at one point.

Ambersley, who broke onto the
racing scene with a Subaru Legacy wagon, said after the race that he was happy
he did well and is looking forward to realizing his potential the rest of the
Time Attack season.

Over in the AWD class, Crawshaw was
hauling in his Porsche Carrera 4S. The car first competed in the local
motorsports scene in January when it raced at the international meet at
Breakers. It proved it had the power to tackle any form of motorsports.

Among those that saw that power
first-hand were up-and-comer Erol Babayigit in his black Mitsubishi Evolution
III and racing stalwart Ian Charlery in his Subaru Impreza.

For Charlery the Impreza is his
latest weapon on the track. In previous Time Attack seasons he brandished a
Honda S2000 and a Nissan Skyline.

Lastly in the Unlimited section Tibbetts
(a.k.a. Speedy) continued his dominance of local racing. His Valvoline Impreza
Sti grabbed the win ahead of the likes of Bobby Hulse in his Toyota Altezza and
noted drag-racer Ian Tibbetts who borrowed the Stingray Batteries Evolution for
the event.

Mandatory registration for the race
takes place Friday night at Parkers on North Sound Road at 7pm.
