Date for Port Arthur Cayman Night

It’s become habitual, the popular
Cayman Night event, at Port Arthur, Texas, has been recurrent for so long that
even most at the Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce hold opposing views on just
how many times the occasion has taken place.

Most Chamber members agree it may
have started back in the early 80s missing a few years in between. Whatever,
the 2010 date for Cayman Night has been set for Saturday, 25 September at the
Carl Parker Multipurpose Centre starting at 6pm.

For the Caymanians living in Port
Arthur and vicinity, Cayman Night is an evening of music, dance, socialising
and meeting friends and family who share roots with Caymanians living in the
Bay Islands, Louisiana, Alabama and Cayman.

The annual get-together draws between
800 to 1,000 attendees sporting cowboy boots and tropical attire.

Of course a selection of Cayman-style
food is on hand along with rum punch and other beverages.

Music is provided by the Barefoot
Man backed by the Sea n B Band with a special appearance by Andy (the Cayman
Cowboy) Martin who will be singing his sea classics, which are always a hit with
the old-time mariners.

A large number of indigenous
Caymanians and their kin live in the south Texas Golden Triangle area, which
covers Port  Arthur, Beaumont, Groves, Nederland  and other small
towns.
