Tourism execs hold pow-wow

Caribbean tourism strategy was on
the agenda in Puerto Rico as private sector
tourism association executives held their annual meeting prior to the Caribbean
Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference.

Representing the Cayman Islands
Tourism Association was executive director Trina Christian, who said that it
was a yearly opportunity to discuss local and international strategy with her
counterparts around the region.

The intensive two-day session ran
on the weekend prior to the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference
in San Juan
last week and featured discussions about all aspects of tourism, said the

“We talk about all the key issues [of the
region]. We share information of how the other destinations are doing, for
example private/public sector partnerships that have worked well in other destinations.

“It was really beneficial and
productive and I felt pretty positive about where Cayman sits in our own performance
compared to the rest of the Caribbean. A lot
of other destinations are having similar challenges as well so we’re all in the
same boat.

“When our competitors are having
struggles at least we know it’s more of a level playing field. It was good to
share that experience,” she noted.
