Caymanites are tough

Cayman’s CrossFit team confirmed
their high status as one of the fittest teams in the Caribbean by winning the
tournament in Bogota, Colombia recently.

CrossFit is the revolutionary type
of intense gym workout that people from all sports disciplines are taking up to
raise their cardio and improve strength and overall fitness dramatically.

CrossFit Cayman is run by husband
and wife pair Matt and Tarasa Barnett.  Tarasa
recently represented Cayman in the NORCECA beach volleyball tournament. They
were joined by another married couple, volleyball aces Carl and Wanda Brenton.
Carl also plays flag football for Dog House.
Jennifer Chailler completed the team in Bogota.

In the row and burpees, Cayman
smashed the others out of sight with 379 reps compared to 323 for Bogota and
304 for CrossFit Peru.

Cayman also excelled in the weights
tests, hand-stand push-ups and all manner of events that test your strength,
stamina and resilience to the limit.

In each of the workouts, there were
four people working, two men and two women.

Wanda Brenton said: “Team Cayman
practiced the row and burpees workout before leaving for Bogota just to get a
feel for how it would be and we got a score of 417. In Bogota we scored 379. We
were at 8,700 feet above sea level in Bogota so that will show you how big a
factor that played in everyone’s performance.

“Team Cayman swept all four events quite
comfortably though and became known as the ‘Caymanites’.” The Caymanites will
represent the South, Central America and Caribbean Region in Carson, Los
Angeles 16-18 July and will be competing against CrossFit Affiliate Teams from
all over the world for a shot at becoming the Fittest CrossFit Gym in the
