Torch run marks start

On Saturday the Special Olympics
Cayman Islands saw the start of its 22nd annual National Games. Truman Bodden
Sports Complex was the site for a bevy of track and field action from 3pm

Only a handful of supporters turned
up for the opening ceremony but those that did caught a fabulous sight.

A number of Special Olympics
volunteers took part in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run and marched into
the national stadium carrying a torch. After an island-wide marathon during the
morning hours the runners went half-way around the track before presenting the
torch to an athlete to run the last 100m.

After that came a number of opening
remarks from pastor and 2010 YCLA finalist Felix Manzanares, Minister of Youth
and Sports Mark Scotland and His Excellency the Governor Duncan Taylor (who
publicly admitted he had a vested interest in the local Special Olympics as his
son has a learning disability).

The torch run was quite a sight.
