Canadians urged to register

Local consulate can assist

All Canadians residing in Cayman
are urged to register with the Consulate of Canada. An advisory from the
consulate office points out that registration is important, especially since
the start of the hurricane season.

“We can assist you and send you
safety and security updates,” the consulate assures.

Registration information is
confidential and used according to provisions of the Privacy Act.

Canadians can register online at
www.travel.gc.ca/register

The local office, in the Landmark
Building, 64 Earth Close, can be contacted between 10am and 1pm by calling
949-9400 or emailing [email protected]

The consulate office suggests that
people keep important documents handy in case they have to evacuate. Those
include passport, birth certificate, marriage certificate, drivers licence,
medical insurance details and other hard to replace items, such as education
certificates. These documents could be kept together in a water-tight plastic
bag.

Passports should be checked for
expiration dates so they can be renewed if necessary.
