Billfish catch

This weekend local anglers can hook
fish for cash prizes. The annual billfish catch-and-release tournament takes
place 21-22 August around the waters of Grand Cayman. Anglers will be looking
to nab various species of billfish including blue marlin, swordfish and
spearfish. Interestingly August is historically a good month to catch billfish.

A number of prizes are on offer for
the most catches. First place nabs US$3,000 while second place earns $2,000 and
third place gets $1,000. Junior and lady anglers are eligible for special
awards. Prize-giving is slated for next Tuesday 24 August at 7pm in Sunset
House.

The registration deadline for this
year’s event is this Thursday 19 August. Prospective anglers can sign up at
Sunset House. The entry fee is CI$300 per boat. There are no limit on anglers
this year although all competing fishermen are required to be angling club
members.
