The National Council of Voluntary
Organisation’s annual Radio/Telethon will take place at the Prospect Playhouse
on Saturday, 30 October.
The event, which is the NCVO’s
largest fundraiser each year, will be aired live on Cayman 27 and Radio Cayman
from 7pm to midnight.
“We are gearing up for our
Radio/Telethon and are working to make the event bigger and more diverse than
ever before,” said the organisation’s chief executive, Janice Wilson. “We have
always enjoyed the support of the local community and businesses, and I would
encourage local business to contact me directly over the next few weeks to
arrange to make their donation live on air.”
“Last year we had an amazing total
of $130,000, and we really hope to match and possibly better that figure this
year. Our programmes are more in demand than ever, and due to budget cuts this
year we now receive 10 per cent less funding from government, therefore we are
more dependent on public support than ever before.”
The fundraiser will help finance
various programmes that the organisation coordinates and subsidises, including
Miss Nadine’s, an NCVO subsidised preschool that provides an early education
for up to 70 two- to five-year-olds; the NCVO subsidised nursery, Jack &
Jill, which cares for 16 babies, and the Nadine Andreas Residential Foster
Home, which looks after up to nine children in need of care and protection.
“In addition, we have had extra
requests this term for assistance from our Caring Cousins Welfare Fund, which
amongst other things provides lunch and a snack to a dozen school children who
wouldn’t otherwise be fed during the school day,” Mrs. Wilson added. For more
