Uplifting bra workshop for breast cancer

Breast cancer awareness advocate
and local jewellery store owner Gale Tibbetts is launching an uplifting fund
raising event where participants can get creative while furthering breast
cancer awareness in Cayman.

The fundraiser aims to reach out to
members of the public who can attend a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bra) workshop on
Saturday, 18 September, from 3-6pm. There, pre-registered participants of all
ages will bring in a bra to customise with their own materials or those bought
from Ms Tibbetts.

The bras, once glammed up, will be
displayed at a one-of-a-kind exhibition that will be staged next month at
24K-Mon Jewelers & Art Gallery.

The BRAvo art exhibition will have
its opening reception on Tuesday, 26 October, at 24k-Mon Jewelers in Buckingham
Square, West Bay Road from 5-8pm.

All exhibits must be submitted to
the store by 18 October. Each participant will pay $5 to attend the workshop.
Those subsequently wanting to exhibit their creations will pay a further $5 to
register their artwork for the show.

Places for the workshop are
limited. The exhibition will open to the public on Tuesday, 19 October, from
10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday and will close at a date in November.

“I came up with idea because since
losing my sister, Brenda, to the disease 12 years ago, I’ve become deeply
involved in raising funds and awareness of breast cancer in Cayman for the
Lions Club of Tropical Gardens’ Breast Cancer Awareness campaign,” said Ms

“The workshop and BRAvo art
exhibition represent the creative camaraderie the community can share while
raising funds and raising awareness. This is the 13th year that the Lions Club
of Tropical Gardens has sponsored the local breast cancer awareness campaign.
Through the club’s endeavours they educate and assist those affected by the
illness. They also sponsor 500 mammograms annually,” she added.

Those interested in taking part in
the workshop and exhibition should contact Ms Tibbetts at 949-1499 or email
