Blackbeard’s rum cakes made their
debut last week at Camana Bay’s Farmers Market. The cakes are made in Cayman
from locally blended rum.
“We want people to come down to the
Farmer’s Market and sample the seven delicious flavours of cake we make at Blackbeard’s,”
said Hugh Lockwood the master baker behind the rum cakes. The cakes are
available in 4 ounce and 32 ounce sizes, and come in original, traditional,
chocolate, hurricane, coconut, banana and pina colada flavours.
Mr. Lockwood is in charge of
baking, bottling and blending all Blackbeard’s rums and rum cakes. He is a
10-year veteran of the company and holds a qualification in baking from Leeds
University in the UK. Mr. Lockwood
previously worked for Northern England’s retail craft baker Thomas of York Ltd.
Mr. Lockwood will be selling the
cakes at the Farmers Market in Gardenia Court at Camana Bay (behind Abacus),
every Wednesday between noon and 7pm. Customers who buy a six-pack of cakes at
the Farmers Market will also receive a discount coupon for $2 off a bottle of
Blackbeard’s rum in Blackbeard’s stores only.
