Fun for Reef riders

Cyclists get another chance to
pedal like crazy next week in a more relaxed atmosphere with the return of the
increasingly popular Reefathlon series.

It starts on 26 September and is
aimed at all levels of cyclists from total beginners to seasoned vets. It
starts and finishes at the Reef Resort in East End from 7am and follows a
19-mile circuit through the Eastern Districts. The first loop is not actually a
race, which is why it suits riders of all abilities. The average speed is
around 16 miles an hour, so it allows slower cyclists the opportunity to ride
in a big group and get a feel for it.

The women and juniors battle it out
in the second loop, making it a 38-mile event for them. Then the men get a
chance to allow all that testosterone to kick in with the third loop, when it
is a full-on race and a 57-mile event for them.

Early entry is $15, or $20 on the
day, which includes an event T-shirt, water bottle and post event refreshments.
The Reefathlon also provides an opportunity for participants to enjoy a
staycation at The Reef: $99 for a beachfront studio for two also admits one in
the event.
