Caribbean has 6,000 hotel rooms in pipeline

There were 16,870 rooms in the
hotel development pipeline in the Mexico and Caribbean region during August,
according to a statistical report.

The report, released by Smith
Travel Research, Torto Wheaton Research and Dodge Construction, noted that
Mexico was the largest territory and that it had 10,545 rooms in the active
pipeline.

Of those, 4,737 were actually in
construction.

Of the remaining 6,235 rooms in the
August report, Dominican Republic reported 1,674 rooms in the active pipeline,
and Puerto Rico noted 1,210 rooms were either in planning, final planning and
construction.

The development pipeline counts
on-paper hotel developments as pipeline projects. The previous statistics noted
that 17,208 rooms were in the pipeline. Projects drop off the figures once they
have been completed or abandoned.
