A full room of local residents
turned out to meet with Pirate’s Week Festival manager Bernie Bush at Heritage
House last Tuesday evening to show their support in organising Cayman Brac’s
Heritage Day. They sought an event more conducive to families and students, and
as a result, it was unanimously agreed that alcohol sales would be limited to
activities after 8pm.
It was also agreed that parade
marshals for each float will monitor festival volunteers to ensure that they
are alcohol-free, to provide a safe atmosphere for children.
Committee heads were also
appointed, with Chevala Burke named Cayman Brac’s Heritage Day coordinator.
Weekly meetings will begin Tuesday, 21 September, to kick off participation
from the community and schools.
Heritage House will be the staging
area for work, communication and meetings.
For more information or to
volunteer, please contact Saskia Edwards at the Heritage House, 948-0563. Chuck
O’Connor will assist in communicating to the volunteers and public. Those who
wish to wear costumes in the parade will need to apply immediately for
