Discovery Centre opens in Camana Bay

A new Discovery Centre in Camana
Bay opens 1 October with special activities and games for kids and their
families.

Games, a photo competition and
mini-photography workshops mark the opening of the new centre on The Paseo in
the Town Centre.

The centre is viewed as a ‘front
door’ to the Camana Bay community, offering a venue for learning, exploration
and discovery, according to a press release.

Using touch screens and concierge
service, visitors to The Discovery Centre can learn about Camana Bay’s past,
present and future, as well as what’s coming up on the Camana Bay events
calendar and information about properties in the community.

“We call it your way into Camana
Bay,” said John Hillman, director of sales. “Interactive elements are aimed at
both adults and children, so all can learn about what makes Camana Bay so
special.”

On Saturday, 2 October from 10am to
4pm, Camana Bay and local artist Wray Banker will offer a series of traditional
porch-side games for the family. Visitors can play mankala or dominoes, or try
yo-yo’s or gig spinning. Kids will get a kick out of the crab racing Solijah,
the giant games of Connect 4, Jenga, Snakes & Ladders and Hopscotch, as
well as the special lunch-hour storytelling by Nasaria Suckoo-Chollette.

Native Sons will outline a giant
chalk mural of a Cayman seascape for kids to colour in or simply create their
own art on the pavers. All games will take place on The Paseo in front of the
Discovery Centre.

Also as part of the opening week
celebrations, Camana Bay is holding an iDiscover amateur photo competition,
which is free to enter, and all photos must be taken in The Town. With
different topics for each age group (5-10, 11-17 and 18+), winners can choose
between a Fuji FinePix XP10 camera from Cayman Camera and a private lesson with
local professional photographer Patrick Broderick. A prize of a CI$50 Books
& Books voucher will be given for outstanding mentions in e
ach group.

And to give everyone the best shot
at winning the photo competition, Camana Bay is hosting free mini-photography
workshops for under 18s on Saturday, 2 October. The Articulate workshops are
one-and-a-half hours each and begin with a theory session at the Discovery
Centre, followed by an instructor-led photography excursion to capture the
natural and built environment of Camana Bay. Registrations are being accepted
at
articulate.com

Keen runners can also sign up at
the Discovery Centre for the Observation Tower Run, which takes place
on 16 October.
