London intern returns home

Young Caymanian Jamaal Anderson is
returning to Grand Cayman after spending 11 months assisting the Cayman Islands
Government representative in London.

Mr. Anderson’s role was to
represent and promote the Cayman Islands in the UK and Europe. His duties
included handling public enquiries about Cayman, liaising with groups such as
the All Party Parliamentary Group, including preparing agendas and territory
reports and maintaining the database of Caymanian students in the UK.

He analysed European Union policy
and programmes and attended the EU Overseas Countries and Territories
Association meetings in Brussels.

He also had the opportunity to
represent the Cayman Islands at some official functions and ceremonial events
such as the State Opening of Parliament and the Trooping of the Colour Ceremony
on The Queen’s Birthday. Mr. Anderson stated he was pleased with his experience.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my year
in London and can now appreciate the wide range of duties with which the London
Office is involved,” Mr. Anderson said. “It has been a fascinating and
inspiring challenge, and I have gained a great deal.

“London is a wonderful city; there
is so much to see and do, quite apart from the chance of exploring other parts
of the UK. I am looking forward to going home and seeing my family and friends,
but at the same time I am sorry to be leaving.”

Mr. Anderson covered the absence of
Nadira Lord while she was on maternity leave.
