Cayman night a hit in Texas

Nearly 500 people feted Cayman at a
big party last month — but this Cayman Night Party was held in Port Arthur,
Texas.

The Greater Port Arthur Chamber of
Commerce and the Port Arthur International Seafarers Center hosted the event on
25 September at the Bob Bowers Civic Center. Since the early ‘80s, Port Arthur
has celebrated Cayman Night to highlight its relationship with Grand Cayman.
Over the past decades, many Cayman seamen settled in the Port Arthur area because
the city has always been one of their primary ports of entry. There is a very
strong Cayman presence in the South Texas and Louisiana areas.

The Cayman Night featured
island-style cuisine, as well as Tortuga rum punch and other beverages.
Entertainment was provided by the Barefoot Man, Sea ‘n B and the star of the
show, Andy Martin. Texas-based Outrigger band provided pre-show music.

Along with those who have Caymanian
ties, the party drew fans of the Cayman Islands — in other words, past
visitors who wanted to reminisce about their vacation while wearing shorts,
flowered shirts and flip-flops. Barefoot Man, Andy Martin and Sea ‘n B fans
also made up a good portion of the attendees.

Cayman-based sponsors for the event
were Cayman Airways, the Ministry of Tourism, the REEF Resort and Tortuga Rum
Company.
