Rock for Haiti on Saturday

Cayman residents keen to help Haiti
with its ongoing recovery efforts following last January’s massive earthquake,
can rock out at Grand Harbour while racking up money to send volunteers to help
rebuild the island at  Saturday’s (23
October) Rocktoberfest for Haiti event.

The free, music-filled fundraiser
at the Brick House patio, from 1pm to midnight, is the team’s latest and final

Later this month, five of the
team’s volunteers will head to Haiti, which lost more than 200,000 people, to
support the relief efforts of the Haven Organisation.

Rocktoberfest, which will showcase
an impressive roster of local bands, including Madam Speaker, Clever Knots, Backbeat
Band, The Vagabonds, Suite Elite and Harmony & Little Magic, will also feature
a  Caybrew beer tent, a mechanical bull,
$10 concert T-shirts and a smokin’ jerk chicken stand with all proceeds going
to charity work in Haiti.

There will also be a $5 raffle with
20 prizes, including staycation packages, BlackBerry cell phones, Sean Paul
tickets and Brick House meal vouchers.

Raffle tickets are available from
Team Cayman for Haiti members, the Dog House, Brick House and Brew House venues
and at Vibe and SPIN radio stations.

This Saturday’s concert will also
feature music from local DJs who will keep the music pumping between sets and
wave-pool demonstrations.

The travelling members of Team
Cayman for Haiti are Taura Ebanks, Kathryn Walsh, Tom Elliot, Russell Sager and
Derry Lee Carter. They are scheduled to arrive in Haiti on 30 October to work
with the Haven Organisation members to build 80 homes, a community centre and a
playground.  The team, who will join 300 other
volunteers, will also undertake masonry, carpentry, painting, electrical and
catering work.
