FirstCaribbean honours unsung heroes

FirstCaribbean International Bank recently honoured two
women who have worked over many years for the good of others in Cayman.

As part of the Unsung Heroes programme,  FirstCaribbean  allocated a portion of funds for each hero to
donate to the worthy cause of their choice.

Patsy Alberga and Lucille Douglas were honoured for their
long-time commitment to the community.

Mrs. Alberga has been involved in community service in
the Cayman Islands for more than 25 years and, prior to that, more than 25
years in Jamaica. She serves with the Pink Ladies organisation, working in the
hospital cafeteria two days a week. She also grows and sells plants, donating
the proceeds to the Pink Ladies,

Mrs. Alberga also makes pepper jelly and jams, donating
the proceeds to the Nadine Andreas Foster Home. She is a regular visitor to the
home, keeping updated on its young residents. She named the foster home to
receive her donation.

“I am thrilled to be able to present this donation to the
Nadine Andreas Foster Home as it is a cause that is very dear to my heart,” she
said. “The home relies completely on donations, and I know that this money will
go a long way towards helping the young people who live there.”

Mrs. Douglas has touched the lives of many people of all
ages, as for more than 40 years she has undertaken charitable work with her
church and in the community. She shops for the elderly and takes those who
cannot drive to the clinic, hospital, supermarket or church. She regularly
visits the hospital and the Pines Retirement Home to offer solace and support
to the elderly or sick.

Mrs. Douglas chose to donate to the Cayman Islands Cancer
Society.

“The Cancer Society is such a worthy cause as it works so
tirelessly to help the community, both in the prevention of cancer as well as
helping those that are suffering,” she said. “I am overjoyed at the prospect of
being able to assist the charity in such an important way.”

Elvis Coward, associate director, compliance, with
FirstCaribbean International Bank, said the bank is delighted to be able to
assist the local community in this way.

“ .. It helps to highlight members of the community who
regularly and selflessly serve others, but who may not have had the recognition
they deserve. Secondly, our donation ensures that our Unsung Heroes get the
opportunity to help the cause of their choice with a monetary donation as
well.”
