Cayman Islands hit Toronto

Representatives of the Cayman
Islands Department of Tourism have been telling Canadian travel professionals
about what the destination has to offer.

Tammy Thompson, a marketing
representative based in Canada, explained that the department took part in
Caribbean Tourism Week in Montreal and Toronto between 21 and 29 October.

The event, according to organisers,
was a celebration of the sights, sounds, colours, culture and unique vacation
attributes of the Caribbean. Tourism officials, the media, artistes,
performers, celebrity chefs, sponsors and strategic partners, as well as the
youth of the Caribbean diaspora, participated in various activities.

One of the days featured a travel
agent training event held at George Brown College, Toronto, during which about
80 travel agents assembled to learn about romance and destination weddings, incentive
and group travel plus experiential travel, explained Ms Thompson.

“We were on site with a manned
display to meet and greet all agents and share information on our beautiful
islands. In addition, approximately 400 agents throughout Canada joined via
webinars to learn of each topic during the week,” she added, noting that there
was much media interest in the inaugural Westjet flight from Toronto to Cayman
on 4 November.

Media luncheon

The tourism professional also noted
that Cayman representatives attended a media luncheon and marketplace event,
which was an opportunity to network with more than 60 media representatives.

“Our involvement then continued
into the evening where we were present at Rum and Rhythm, an event where
attendees had an opportunity to enjoy the various sights, sounds, colours,
culture and unique vacation experiences of the Caribbean.

“We had a manned display and shared
samples of our famous rum cake and stirring up excitement for our upcoming
Pirates Week,” she said, adding that the attendance at the Rum and Rhythm event
was approximately 500 guests, including approximately 50 media.

“It held at a beautiful venue here
in Toronto, attendees were full of laughter and had a fun night of Caribbean
music, rum and dancing.  Event-goers were
treated to slices of our famous rum cake, leaving attendees wanting to visit
the Cayman Islands to purchase their own.”
