Tennis ace turned author Venus
Williams has confirmed a new date for her book signing event at Books &
Books in Camana Bay.
The fashion designer, author and
Olympic gold medallist will sign copies of her latest book, Come to Win:
Business Leaders, Artists, Doctors, and Other Visionaries on How Sports Can
Help You Top Your Profession on Thursday, 11 November at 7pm.
Though she is still receiving
treatment for a knee injury from September’s US Open, Ms Williams is said to be
fully rested and looking forward to her visit to Grand Cayman.
The book, filled with inspirational
tales by a long and impressive list of media moguls, entrepreneurs, politicians
and public role models, focuses on how to turn sporting prowess into a
successful career by providing a playbook on how qualities learned in the
sporting arena are directly applicable to achieving goals in everyday life.
Ms Williams turned to nearly 50
world players, all of whom previously played competitive sports, and sought
anecdotes from them on how they have learned to operate at the top of their
field. Her main question to them was: What principles that inspired you toward
success as an athlete are helpful in life and in business? The responses, in
interesting anecdotes by such luminaries as Condoleezza Rice, Bill Bradley,
Vera Wang and Bill Clinton included: figuring out who best plays what position
in a team environment and then applying that to the work environment, and how
to focus by blocking out peripheral distractions.
As well as being a useful tool for
coaches, parents and teachers, Come to Win is also helpful for every manager
and career professional seeking to get the best out of themselves and those
around them.
In the book, co-written by Kelly E.
Carter, Ms Williams also reflects on what she has learned from her own coaches,
including her father and mother, and how their wisdom contributes to her own
remarkable achievements, including the launch of her own businesses, V-Starr
Interiors, an interior design firm, and EleVen, an athletic clothing line.
Her visit on Thursday is an
autograph-only event, so attendees must buy a copy of Come to Win from Books
& Books to enter the signing line. Ms Williams will only sign copies of her
book, not memorabilia. However, there is no limit to the number of books she
can sign. She will sign her name but will have time to personalise the
signings, in order to accommodate all who attend. For the same reason, Ms
Williams will not pose for pictures, but pictures may be taken from the line.
The
event is part of the Books & Books International Visiting Author Series
sponsored by Ogier and the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism. For more information,
