The government Economics and
Statistics Office warns Cayman Islands residents not to respond to any emails
claiming to be from an enumerator or the Census Office.
“Census enumerators will not be
contacting any residents via email,” said Statistics Office Director Maria
Zingapan.
“We therefore ask anyone who
receives an e-mail claiming to be from the Census Office to immediately call
their district census office to verify its source.”
Residents can also report
suspicious correspondence by e-mailing ESO staffer Crispin Boney at
[email protected]
Meanwhile, the 2010 census is
nearing its end.
“Enumerators have done well
covering the majority of households in the past five weeks,” Mrs. Zingapan
said.
“However, there are still some people left to be counted. Over the next two
weeks we will focus our efforts on reaching out to those households.
“If an enumerator hasn’t come to
your door yet, you can call your district census office to make an appointment.
Especially if you are going away for the long weekend, please contact us before
week’s end so we can count you in.”
It is a legal requirement in the
Cayman Islands to answer census-takers questions.
